EMAIL & FORWARDING
Most Web sites come with their own email accounts that you must configure on your own computer (like a new mail profile). Most also have the ability to anonymously forward your email to your regular favorite email using alias'
(IE: joe@joebrown.com forwards to joe@homeemail.com)
Usually you can have up to a hundred of these alias' to each web site so you see how easily spam happens. It is however handy if you have many people in your organization who all have their own personal emails they prefer to use.

COUNTERS
Counters are very handy to keep track of traffic to your site. Most counters are free and come with the ability to have statistics as well. They can tell you where your hits are coming from and what type of browsers are being used to view yoursite.

CLOCKS/DATES
Clocks and Dates on your page are handy to keep the viewer assured that your information is up to date. Most of these are JAVA based.

FORMS
Forms are very helpful in interacting with people who will frequently ask questions that you may not be able to answer from the information on your site alone.

JAVA
Too many options here- You have to check out a few good java sites and see what is available from picture affects to mouse trailers

FLASH
Flash has turned into a very BIG/Kewl thing, however costs a fare penny in time to have created as it is like creating an animated movie from scratch. It is the ability to have sound, pictures and drawings animated and stored in one file that FLASH PAYERS will play. Your view MUST HAVE FLASH installed or they will need to install it (You therefore should give them a means to do so by way of a link to a FLASH VIEWER DOWNLOAD.

Data Bases are quite extensive and need continuos maintenance, thus tend to be very costly affair.

 If you can say the NAME once and REMEMBER it, then it's likely a good name.

<>WHAT IS A NAME? The NAME you choose is very important. It shouldn't be too long or difficult to remember. It will be your best advertising tool next to the site itself so really consider each possible name. Names can have .org (organizations), .com (business) , .net (business) or .ca (CANADIAN) extensions. Then you choose
 names for the site using your new NAME like: me@??.com. EMAIL NAMES come with many HOSTING PLANS. You can usually choose as many as you want to forward to your home email.

HOSTING Services provide your INTERNET SPACE and will keep your information accessible and fast loading depending on the Service you choose.

A HOST is one of your most important decisions to make when creating a web site.

First you want a reliable one that is up online 24/7/365.
Next is tech support. If you can't get tech support for when those little things happen it is almost unbearable and too late to do anything about as most hosting services are for a year or more. They are cheaper if you get plans that are a year or more. Paying monthly will cost way too much in the end.
Your HOSTING SERVICE must be able to handle java, CGI, SSL (Animation, interactiveness with the browser, Data Base Options, Counters, Clocks, Flash etc....)

Technology has advanced and now you need a website and email address just to function... Relax - It's not really as hard as it seems :)

PROMOTING
Promoting your site is something you have to do from the time it is online till it's down. It's like any other business and you need to advertise. Fill out forms and get links to other sites as well as link backs to yours. Search engines will acknowledge sites with many links and it helps to keep you in the search engine listings that way.

ADVERTISING
FLYERS, ADS & BUSINESS CARDS are a great start to getting your website address out there for all to see. Make sure you include your (www.?.com and email address) on all advertising from the minute you register the name and put your site online. Most Web Designers can also make Flyers, Ads and Business cards from the information they have for your site alone.

SEARCH ENGINE SUBMISSIONS
There are all kinds of free site submission places online. You need to fill the forms out (over and over again- so save the information you want to advertise your site with in a text file to refer to regularly) It takes about 3 months from the time your site goes online (with proper meta tags) till you will actually see your site in a search engine. Searching for your site in the search engines and then getting to your site will also aid in getting higher ranks in the listings but filling out actual search engine submission forms is the only way to actually get them listed.
